PLAYTIME

This series of work is inspired by two things. FIRSTLY our relationship have with miniature representations of ‘people’, especially dolls, mannikins, poppets and totems. They are discovered on archaeological digs, on refuse tips, in museums, in attics and charity shops, and in collections in museums; most of us have at least one tucked away somewhere (i have lots) . At the same time as being a little disturbing they also hold a fascination and for many of us they represent memory and family narratives. SECONDLY I love the freedom to play children have, that creativity that turns everything into a toy or into something to wear or to hold. A that sense of exploration and disovery we sometimes lose as we grow older. All the wall heads begin life in an adapted tradtional mould that I have created or redesigned. The adding of features, such as horns, hair, facial marks and branches is an instinctive response, as is the colour. Each is individual and they all have names. The heads are designed to hang on a wall and have a keyhole at the back, some are vases. The Cherubs shelves have two holes.Use with screws to hang them on a wall. I only make these 4 times a year at the different seasons so they are limited editions. I also occasionally make jars with doll heads
